England v. Andorra Synopsis...

Straight from the retirement village bustling metropolis of Callendar, Ontario, my Dad rates various members of the England squad...

James 5 Saves 0, High catches 0, Defense bollockings 0, Timmys 6

Johnson 9 Young kid gave all. Never stopped running particularly prepared to try to go round the full back. Man of the match for me and mom. Croatia game. He must be sacrificed for experience. Yuk

Terry 5 - Had nothing to do and I felt he was looking for trouble throughout the game. This is not the kind of aggression that is needed and certainly not from the England captain

Lescott 7 - Young kid looked really promising and confident. Certainly upstaged Terry. Croatia game. He must be sacrificed for experience. Yuk

Ashley Cole 8 - Typical game. Never stopped running and looked a better winger than the winger.

Downing 4 - Like most pro's, tries to bed in a new set of boots every game until eventually he gets a pair with L and R on the back. Useless.

Barry 5 - Almost invisible. Not sure whether that is good or bad.

Lampard 5 - Still not performing anywhere close to his abilities. Leave him out for Croatia to teach him a lesson exactly what 3 Lions stand for. The very noticeable fact (maybe 5-6 times), he turned 180 to face the right flank (for a timely switch) and passed 5 yards BEHIND Johnson in his trade mark defensive passes that keep his pass rate stats up. I was always coached to pass a distance in front of the reciever. I think he is having an affair with John Terry. Terry gets the ball on the edge of the box witha full 20 yards between him and the next line of players. Lamps runs straight at him to within 5 yards to recieve a pass. It is so predictable that the Andorran #9 chases straight after him and he is forced to make a pass back to Terry. Terry predictably then starts the defensive passing maize along the back 4. Lescott did put a stop to this though. He would loft it down the wing whenever he got it. Too many times Lamps passes where not there and once he put over Walcotts head on the touchline from 20 yards under no pressure whatsover. Is Terry incompetent when it comes to booting the ball? Bring a young kid in. Any youngster will do, we have a couple in Callander.

Walcott 9 - The nerve of the little f****r to actually run around and work hard employing the skills he is blessed with. Unfortunately most England players are Rt footed and more comfortable lofting a pass for him to chase out to the Left wing so after a while, supply dried up. Croatia Game. He could set a new precedent for industry, speed and skill. Drop the cocky little f****r and bring back Beckham.

Defoe 4 - I felt sorry for him. The strength of his game is speed and trickery with his feet. We have not one but two wingers and two fullbacks sending in high crosses most of which were anywhere. The cure for this problem is that when the team sheet is posted, somebody must put the players height after his name. Immediately after he was subbed the game changed. All passes were now along the floor with many cute flicks and one-twos. Heskeys skills? Target man. Send the ball in the air and he WILL win it flicking it on to Defoe which is pretty clever seeing as he was already showered.

Rooney 4 - And then theres Rooney. Absolutely useless. The only time the cameras were on him (and it was numerous) he was helping the opposition to there feet? Seems like a nice boy. He is in deep s**t and should be on the bench with Lamps. He is destined for many splinters up his ass when Berbs arrive. But then again, the press is always kind to him. One thru pass against Andorra for a goal puts him in the same league as the ponce from LA.

All in all I was pleased to see so much attacking football which is the only way to play. True wingers are the only way because it is what England always have had a monopoly on. Ergo Cole and Walcott. Agbonlahor (Heskey) and Owen/Defoe would have a field day. The main problem is every one knows about 1966. Nobody has gone back to look at how we did it. Wingers did the damage (not rt midfielders) with a good old fashioned center forward NOT a striker.
