One to Watch - Gabriel Obertan...

Manchester United's new man has some seriously crater-sized boots to fill.

Says Sir Alex..."Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now, but because of his educational programme our efforts to get him here have always been delayed.

"We like to get young players and develop them and we will see that in Gabriel over the next two years."

Only slightly different than the proposed production model by the inclusion of a roll cage, chin and tail spoilers to keep it planted and a tweaked CPU. A stunning car. Sign me up.

Gameday 6 Recap - GFC v. Grimsby Thistle...

Short but sweet. The match and this write up.

The venerable Grimsby Derby always makes me scratch my chin and wonder what Thistle team will show up. They can run the ball, they can score, they can humble and humiliate at times and they can be downright dirty when they're in the mood. We've clashed heads for years with these boys and despite our friendships off the pitch, on it is a different matter entirely.

Two guys missing right off the bat gave me hope that we'd come off with a result. Dave Sherwood and Andy Gallagher, their two main strike threats were AWOL - both good for at least a goal a piece.

GFC sported a full squad say for the vacationing Pablo Politi and the rehabbing Adriano Grimaldi.

First half action included the threatening skies above and the majority of posession for GFC. Giles Hunter with a goal late in the half provided a small buffer for us to work with but it would be a tenuous one at best as Thistle roared back in the second half with near total domination for some twenty minutes.

Wave after wave was soaked up and repelled, only to see them come at us again and again. Getting to the ball second and being out-hustled at every turn, we were saved by the weather as the clouds opened up and spat out bolts of lightning. The ref mercifully blew the whistle to put a hold on proceedings and GFC limped back to their corner like a punch-drunk middleweight - slightly concussed and bleeding.

Fifteen minutes the ref asked us to wait to see if the inclement weather would pass. It would not. The score stood and like it or not, it's a win. We'd have preferred to play the rest of the match but it was not to be and our only meeting with our cross-town rivals will have an asterisk beside it.

Solid first half, wobbly second, had it gone to it's natural conclusion I have little doubt a tie would have been fair and likely.

Bottom-dwelling Rakija FC tomorrow at Sherwood #4, 3pm. We'll be sporting a slightly different look at kick off in an effort to pad our +/- stats. Stay tuned...

John Terry - Worth £300k per week??

That's a lot of cabbage for a defender, but mind you, it's not just any defender. Let's be honest. The clip shows him bollocksing up that penalty (penal!penal!penal!) against United last year but at the end of the day, who's better? Keep in mind that if the deal does in fact become reality, the Chelsea fabric will be ripped to shreds. JT is the lynch pin, he's the leader, and he's more than just a player - without him they'll be in tatters.

Quote of the Day...

Shocked to get a chance - and I plan to take it | The Sun |Sport|Football: "'I came here a couple of times as a youngster. I competed in a tournament for them and met the manager.
'Over the last few years I've spoken to other players and had the idea that Sir Alex still thought I had something to offer.
'I was always clinging to the hope that he would ask me to come and play for them one day.'"

Confederations Cup - Brazil v. USA...

I told the lads yesterday before we locked horns in the Grimsby Derby - "be like the Americans, not in the first second half, the first half". The Yanks took the game to the South Americans for large parts of the half and showed little of the respect they showed earlier in the competition and got their rewards. The second goal on the fast break was literally a page from the Samba playbook. Kaka and co were rattled and on the ropes. All that was needed was the killer knockout blow. Dunga's mid-match talk must have been a proper hair-dryer and suddenly the world's best stormed back and pinned the USA in their own half for what must have seemed an eternity to Tim Howard and the back four - wave after wave of shock and awe in the form of Robinho, Elano, Fabiano, and Kaka. What a nightmare. In the end, they just proved too much.

Barcelona star Xavi: We wouldn't want Ron here | The Sun |Sport|Football: "'I wouldn't want him here.
'At Barca, we do not have room for players who fill gossip magazines.
'We are hard workers and sportsmen but he, on the other hand, is uncontrollable.
'We have a lot of desire to continue winning.
'The best player in the world is Lionel Messi and there's no chance he will switch allegiance.
'We also have Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o. With that kind of luxury we are capable of doing anything.
'This group has a strong mentality and why shouldn't we dream about winning the treble again?'"
